News Summary

North Korean state media reported on Wednesday approximately 1.4 million young individuals have submitted applications to enlist or rejoin the military this week, accusing South Korea of sending drones with anti-North Korea leaflets over Pyongyang.

The young individuals, comprising students and youth league representatives who signed petitions to enlist in the army, were resolute in their commitment to participate in a "sacred war of destroying the enemy with the arms of the revolution," the state media said.

Similar claims have been made by North Korea in the past regarding the surge in young people volunteering for enlistment during periods of increased tensions, which is hard to be verified.

Commentary

North Korea's such claim, coupled with its efforts to sever ties with South Korea, clearly shows its primary purpose of escalating military tensions against the South: to tighten grip of its citizens especially, the youth who are hard to control due to their deep assimilation with South Korean culture.

It serves as powerful evidence of the level of insecurity and instability the Kim regime currently faces from within. It also demonstrates the power of outside information that sets the minds of the North Korean people free from their life-long deception.

South Korea, its allies, and the international community should continue to target the most vulnerable part of the Kim regime: informing the North Korean people of the truth. By doing so, we will see how the truth sets them free from their 70-year slavery and bondage.
